Wide Area File Services (WAFS) Software

WAFS software allows remote office users to access and share files over the WAN at LAN speeds. Its real-time replication ensures the same files exist at all locations and file-locking keeps users from accidently overwriting files in use. It's easy to install and configure on your Windows servers and no changes are required on end-user machines.

WAFS Overview

WAFS Benefits

  • Fast file access across the WAN: Files are always accessed locally. When changes are made to a file and the file is saved, WAFS’ byte-level differencing causes only those changes to be replicated to all locations in real-time.
  • File-locking: If Mary in Tokyo opens a Word document on the Tokyo server, and a split-second later John opens the same file on the NYC server, John will only be able to open the file as a "read only."
  • Backup: WAFS keeps past versions of files on its primary server. You can retrieve past versions or deleted files, and schedule point-in-time snapshots.
  • Real-time access to newly added files: When a user in Chicago adds a new 30 MB file into a folder, it will appear instantly in Windows Explorer at the San Diego location, even though the file has not been fully replicated. If the San Diego user opens the file, WAFS will stream the data so that certain files will open quickly.
  • High availability: WAFS allows file system access even if the network is down. When the network returns online, all servers are synchronized in order to catch file changes. If the same file was modified by two users, the most current version is chosen. Since all past versions are saved, you can restore from any point in time.
  • No end-user training required: The folders replicated by WAFS appear just like any other Windows file system folder.
  • Tunnels through HTTP/S: It's easy to configure across firewalls, VPNs, or any internet connection.
  • Secure: Uses HTTP/S and 32-bit symmetric key encryption.
  • Enterprise version: The WAFS enterprise version affords both Wide Area File Services and Continuous Data Protection in a single package.
